Lessons Learned from Manged Care for Individuals with Intellectual
& Developmental Disabilities: Informing New York's Transition
The report “Lessons Learned from Managed Care for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: Informing New York’s Transition,” is based on research conducted by Manatt Health in partnership with the Managed Care Community of Practice, a project of the New York Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation. As New York State continues to deliberate on the best way to implement managed care for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities it was important to undertake a survey of several states that have implemented some form of managed care for this population. The purpose was to create an understanding of the options for providing coordinated and managed care, the implications of each, and key take-aways to ensure the state is informed about the options and can then make a smooth transition in New York.

The project was guided by an advisory committee comprised of representatives from I/DD and larger New York healthcare providers, the managed care industry, national experts in the I/DD field, the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, and the New York State Department of Health. Extensive interviews were conducted with stakeholders of various perspectives, including self-advocates and family members, state and national provider associations, state Medicaid officials and Managed Care Organizations.
Additional information about the research, detailed summaries of each state, an accompanying webinar and powerpoint can be found below.
